Unlock Your ✨Special Touch✨
I’m getting married next year (yay!) 💍
And as part of the whole rigamarole of planning a wedding, my partner and I recently went through finding a wedding commissioner.
When I booked an appointment with a guy I found on the registry for my province, I expected to come out of this experience with a great speaker for our ceremony.
Instead, I landed that PLUS a front-row ticket to the best sales pitch I have ever seen IRL.
The story of the best business meeting I have ever taken
It is no understatement that I left that meeting with my jaw on the floor.
(And absolutely certainty that I would pay that man any fee he wanted to ensure he was involved in our special day)
So, how did he do it?
It wasn’t with hard-sell aggressive tactics you’d expect from a used car dealer, that’s for sure.
Aside from being just a wonderful human being to talk to,
Here are the things our marriage commissioner did to make me not only fall in love with his services…
But also willingly pay DOUBLE his base fee to ensure that we were getting the best option for our wedding ceremony:
Our marriage commissioner’s secret sauce to success
#1 — He started the meeting with a detailed survey
This man asked us more questions about our relationship and wedding than anyone ever had before. And not just “where did you guys meet?” style questions…
The type that made us stop, think, and remember some of our best memories together as a couple.
Like, are you kidding me?! Talk about setting the stage for success, right out of the gate.
#2 — He painted a vivid picture of our day
Next, using the large amount of information he collected about our relationship and desired wedding ceremony, he began to lay out how he envisioned our day could be,
(But not just in a logistics way, in a vivid, image-driven way).
He started this part of the meeting with something along the lines of:
“So, let me paint you a picture of what I am thinking for this ceremony, based on my experience and your preferences…”
BINGO. BINGO, BINGO, BINGO. I’ve never felt more heard and understood in my life.
#3 — He explained his services (and went for the upsell on his ✨special touch✨)
Finally, (and hilariously the least important part of this entire appointment),
He started to explain his services, beginning with the most basic option on this website.
After going into detail about what that entailed, he then said,
“But, if you are looking for a more customized experience, I offer a more comprehensive option that involves me writing a personal and nuanced ceremony based on your story. This has truly become the ✨special touch✨ that my couples love.”
(Ok, he didn’t say it with the sparkle emojis, but that is literally what my eyes must have looked like when he said this)
Are you doing enough to sell your ✨special touch✨?
Obviously, if you can’t already tell from the tone of this article, we were sold on this option immediately.
But, I cannot stress this enough:
He was not salesy. He was not aggressive with his pitch, and he did not pander to the classic “your wedding is your most special day!” garbage you hear everywhere someone is trying to overcharge you.
He just painted a picture of our day that we could not part with once it was in our heads.
This meeting was a master class in upselling, customer relationship building, and knowing your worth.
We left not only feeling super excited about our wedding ceremony…
But I also knew that I needed to use these absolute power moves when I talk to my own clients.
It has never been more clear:
Your niche (AKA your ✨special touch✨) needs to be your north star when pitching clients.
Use these techniques to not only land higher quality clients,
But also convenience them to pay your premium (and well-deserved) prices.
